The third factor in building Santa Barbara’s strong community was in involvement with charity, Kenny Slaught says. The city’s nonprofit activities started in 1928, when the Santa Barbara Foundation was started. Today, Santa Barbara has many charities and nonprofit organizations. Local charities provide fast responses to what the community needs, and reduces the requests from national organizations.
